The China Press: Gu Yuehua Launches Her Poetry Collection Predestination僑報：顧月華詩集《宿命》新書發佈

Reporting from New York on August 6, China Press journalist Zhang Jing described the launch of Gu Yuehua’s Predestination in Flushing, jointly organized by Queens Public Library’s New Americans Program and the New York Chinese Women Writers Association. Nearly one hundred readers and literary friends attended. The collection includes two hundred three-line poems about love and life, accompanied by two hundred illustrations by the author.僑報記者張晶8月6日紐約報道】6日，皇后圖書館新移民服務部和紐約華文女作家協會於法拉盛聯合舉辦顧月華詩集《宿命》新書發佈會，現場反響熱烈，吸引文友書迷近百人到場，該詩集收錄了顧月華創作的二百首三行詩，記錄了她對生活的愛與美好，並配有她繪製的二百張插畫。

Chen Xi, director of the library’s New Americans Program, hosted the event. Flushing Library director Zeng Yang welcomed guests and praised the poems’ beauty and emotion. The audience of nearly one hundred brought a lively response to the library’s programming.發佈會由皇后圖書館移民服務部總監陳曦主持，法拉盛圖書館館長曾陽致歡迎詞並表示，顧月華的詩集記錄了她對生活的愛，詩文優美，字裏行間更充滿感情。本次發佈會聽衆反應熱烈，約有近百人到場，爲圖書館的節目錦上添花。

Nancy, president of the New York Chinese Women Writers Association, said the launch was the association’s third “Flower Rain” literary talk, on the theme of love in life. She described Gu’s short poems as a crystallization of love and her writing as positive and romantic, yet grounded in an understanding of difficult realities. Gu remains energetic and continually creative.紐約華文女作家協會會長南希表示，本次顧月華新詩集發佈會，亦是紐約華文女作家協會第三次“花雨”文學講座，講座主題是“生命裏的愛”。顧月華的三行詩雖短，卻是愛的結晶，她是積極的浪漫主義，但在參透生活和悲苦現實下，寫出來的詩句，她充滿能量，始終在創作。

Gu explained that Predestination was her sixth book. Expressing something clearly in three lines is difficult; conveying what lies beyond the words is harder still. Thinking that two hundred poems would make a thin volume, she created two hundred accompanying illustrations. Returning to painting helped her recover something of herself each day, and the book became a way of finding herself again.顧月華表示，《宿命》是她的第六本書，三句詩很有意思，三句話說清楚一些事情或觀點，己是不易，然而關鍵是話外有話，要表述話外之意就有難度和挑戰。她想出本詩集但200首會顯得書太薄，便動手配了200張圖，在此期間，她重拾畫筆，每一天都會找回一點自己的影子，這本書的出版讓她重新找回自己。

Writer Chen Jiu, actor Sun Sihan and publisher Sonia Hu spoke at the launch and shared their reading experiences. Members of the women writers association read selections together, bringing the event to a high point. Publisher and critic Hong Junzhi and writers Tang Jian and Rao Lei also offered appreciative responses.紐約文學界著名作家陳九、演員孫思瀚、出版人胡桃等出席發佈會併發言，和讀者分享讀詩心得。數位女作協會員聯手朗讀詩集精彩片段，將發佈會推向高潮。出版人、評論人洪君植和唐簡、饒蕾等紐約作家、詩人分享了閱讀新詩集的感受，並給予了很高的評價。

Nearly one hundred people attended the launch of Gu Yuehua’s Predestination at Flushing Library in Queens, hearing her reflections and readings from the book. Guests including writer Chen Jiu, association president Nancy, actor Sun Sihan, publisher Sonia Hu and library director Zeng Yang shared their responses to the poems.紐約華語作家顧月華，日前在 皇后區 法拉盛 圖書館 舉辦詩集「宿命」的新書發布會，近百人參加活動，聽取顧月華的創作心得和「宿命」的朗誦片段；作家陳九、紐約華文女作協會長南希、演員孫思瀚、出版人胡桃、圖書館館長曾陽等人也出席發布會，和讀者分享對詩集感言。

Predestination is a collection of three-line poems. Already an accomplished essayist and fiction writer, Gu began the form almost by accident and found it increasingly compelling. She noted that expressing a thought in three lines is difficult, and conveying meaning beyond the words is harder. After writing two hundred poems, she planned a collection but thought it too thin, so she added two hundred illustrations.「宿命」是一本「三句詩」的短詩詩集，在散文和小說上頗有心得的顧月華成，誤打誤撞開始了三句詩的創作，並愈發覺得有意思，「在三句話裡說清事情和觀點已是不易，關鍵是話外有話，就更有難度」。開始在三句詩鑽研的她，不知不覺就寫就了200首，並決定為此出本詩集，卻又覺得太薄，便臨時起意配上200張插圖。

The illustrations brought an unexpected discovery. She had loved painting since childhood but stopped for various reasons. Returning to it decades later felt effortless: each day she recovered a part of herself and felt her earlier self returning.這番插圖經歷，反倒讓顧月華有意外之喜。從小愛畫畫卻因種種原因中斷的她，在數十年後重拾畫筆，竟發現「絲毫不費力」，「我每一天都會找回一點自己的影子，我能看到以前的我回到我的身上。」

That recovery mattered deeply after the loss of her husband a year earlier. She said she had once struggled to understand why Sun Lin became upset when he could not paint each day. Now she too found fulfillment in painting alone. Publishing Predestination was a small matter beside the larger experience of finding herself again: a rebirth.找回自己，對一年前經歷喪夫之痛的顧月華非常重要。她說，以前不理解先生孫林，每日不能畫畫就生氣，「直到現在，自己一個人獨處畫畫，也很滿足和充實」。她直言，「『宿命』這本書的出版是小事，它使我找回了我自己，這是大事，這是重生。」

Her son, actor Sun Sihan, wrote the foreword. He described their relationship as both mother and son and close friends, often talking for two or three hours about anything. His father’s death had revealed his mother’s strength and courage. He attended the launch with his wife and daughter to congratulate her.為此書寫前言的，是顧月華的兒子，演員孫思瀚，他稱自己和母親不只是母子，更是摯友，「無所不談，常常一聊能聊兩三個小時」。他談及去年父親的去世，感受到了母親的堅強和勇敢；此次新書發布會，孫思瀚也帶來了自己的妻女，一同向母親道賀。

Nancy praised the love and capacity for self-healing in Gu’s poems. She saw a person able to begin creating at a low point and gradually rise again, whose energy and desire to move forward had never disappeared.紐約華文女作家協會會長南希稱，顧月華的三行詩雖短，卻是愛的結晶。「她身上最動人的地方，是具有愛的力量，且懂得自癒，這讓她能夠在低谷中開始創作，慢慢爬上來」。南希讚顧月華是一個充滿能量的人，「她永遠是創作者，勇於進取的念頭和願望從來沒有熄滅」。

Writer Chen Jiu, who had organized another launch for Gu at the same venue five years earlier, praised her continuing growth: from essays to poetry, then painting and a prominent online presence. In his view, a true artist has no age.五年前曾在同一地點為顧月華開辦新書發布會的作家陳九稱，顧月華持續地「發展著更新著自己」，從擅寫散文、到耕耘詩歌集，如今又開始畫畫，還是著名的「網紅」，「所以我說，真正的藝術家是沒有年齡的」。
